Reverse—SAD
It is September. It is the part of September that is summer, though the days are getting shorter and the slanted evening sunlight promises fall’s relief. I haven’t been outdoors since the beginning of June. Daylight lengthened, the temperatures became a heat advisory. The air became muggy, swampy. The mosquitoes swarmed even in the bleating sun. And it’s still summer, so the temperatures are heat advisory, the air is swampy, and the mosquitoes persist.
At the beginning of June, I put panels in the windows to block out the heat. I’ve spent the summer indoors. I’ve spent summer in the dark, my summer retreat. I have been in the dark indoors for over 3 months.
It’s termed reversed—SAD or summer SAD (seasonal affective disorder), more common in winter due to less sunlight and more time inside. But I live in a subtropical climate. My days are dark during the summer. I’m indoors during the summer.
Today’s forecasted high is 92°F, with 90-degree temps throughout the 10-day forecast.
