August Revamping
Today is August 1st. August, the dog days of summer… It is the only month without any national holidays. There’s 2 months between the Fourth of July and Labor Day, and with the heat, August drags.
August is the eighth month. In numerology, 8 can mean ‘new beginnings.’ A day is what we make it, each moment an opportunity to seize. August can be made.
New Year’s is a fresh start, renewal. It is hopeful, and we declare resolutions and set goals. July is halfway through the year. August is the last month before fall fervor takes us and sweeps us through the holiday festivities, like wind rapturing the falling leaves.
August is revamping. Resetting. Returning to the year’s goals and resolutions. It is upheavaling what has become stagnant and reviving ambition and determination. August is overcoming inertia and regaining momentum. August is re-ing.
On this August 1st, though a Saturday, I am tackling accumulated admin. Admin is tedious but can also quickly lead to decision-fatigue. My approach is task switching: make a decision, do a different task, make a decision, do a different task. It’s not something I can knock out in one day. But turning the calendar has reignited my drive. August is turning a new leaf.
